NARCOTICS OFFICERS ASSOCIATION TRAINING INSTITUE,
NOVEMBER 13-16, 1999, SACRAMENTO
Attached for your consideration is information regarding the aforementioned Training institute.
The request is for authorization to send our two STAR Deputies,Jeannine Thomas and
Marsha Williams,to this training. Recently, the Los Angeles County Sheriffs Department re-
named the SANE. Program, S.T.A.R. (Success Through Awareness and Resistance). The
current budget provides for continued funding of these two positions.
The Institute will have workshops on child abuse,new laws on use and sale of drugs around
schools, gangs, new drugs and current trends such as rave parties. This training will enhance the
current programs these deputies present to the Rosemead schools.
RECOMMENDATION
It is recommended that the City Council authorize the attendance of the two STAR.Deputies at
the California Narcotics Officers Association Training Institute in Sacramento on November 13-
16, 1999.
