RRA - Item 5A - Approval of Specifications and Authorization to Seek Bids for Conversion of Electrical Service Panels from Overhead to Underground on San Gabriel Blvd (Garvey/Hellman) ROSEMEAD REDEVELOPMENT AGENCY lR R A 8838 VALLEY BLVD,ROSEMEAD,CA91770•(818)288-6671 •Telecopier 8183079218 TO: FRANK G. TRIPEPI, EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR 1 FROM: KEN RUKAVINA, CITY ENGINEER ' DATE: DECEMBER 7, 1999 RE: APPROVAL OF SPECIFICATIONS AND AUTHORIZATION TO SEEK BIDS FOR CONVERSION OF ELECTRICAL SERVICE PANELS FROM OVERHEAD TO UNDERGROUND ON SAN GABRIEL BOULEVARD (GARVEY/HELLMAN) Southern California Edison Company(SCE) has completed installation of the underground conduit on San Gabriel Boulevard, between 1-10 Freeway and 200 feet north of Garvey Avenue, and is currently pulling the electrical cables through the conduit. SCE will then be ready to remove the existing overhead lines. However, before this can be done, the consumer-side electrical panels must be converted to accept the power supply from underground rather than overhead. Although SCE is performing their work using the City's Rule 20A allocations, the electrical panel conversions cannot be funded by that source. Along with adopting Resolution No. 95-52, which created the Underground Utility District No. 8 (San Gabriel Boulevard from 1-10 Freeway to 200 feet north of Garvey Avenue), City Council approved utilizing the Redevelopment Agency funds to perform the consumer-side electrical panel conversions. As you recall, the Agency funded such conversions for the Valley Boulevard and Garvey Avenue underground projects. The proposed schedule for construction is as follows: Receive Bids January 13, 2000 Award Contract January 25, 2000 Begin Work February 22, 2000 Complete Work March 31, 2000 A1GE NOY AGENDA DEC 141999 ITEM No. D . December 7, 1999 Page 2 The specifications have been reviewed and are acceptable to the City Engineer. The Engineer's Estimate for construction is $87,000. RECOMMENDATION It is recommended that the Redevelopment Agency approve the specifications and authorize advertisement for bids by the Agency Secretary. Enclosure
