OF CITY EQUIPMENT FOR THE PURPOSE OF CELEBRATING RED
RIBBON WEEK, OCTOBER 17, 1998
Attached for your consideration is a request from the Asian Pacific Family Center for the use of
City equipment to be used in support of a community event celebrating Red Ribbon Week on
Saturday, October 17, 1998, at Rosemead High School.
They are requesting that the City provide the use of the following equipment: I stage without
canopy; 25 booths with top tarps; 25 tables(1 per booth); and 50 chairs (2 per booth). The City
Attorney has approved the attached Insurance Certificate.
RECOMMENDATION
If the Council is in favor of the request, it is recommended that staff be directed to make the
necessary arrangements to deliver and pick up the equipment at no cost to the Asian Pacific
Family Center.

We at the Asian Pacific Family Center (APFC), along with the Rosemead Chamber of Commerce.
Rosemead High School Rosemead School District, Garvey School District, and ACCEL (Asian.
Council for Community Empowerment and Leadership) are organizing a community event in
celebration of Red Ribbon Week on Saturday, October 17, 1998, at Rosemead High School. We
are expecting the joint collaboration of many community groups who will staff booths (e.g.,
provide educational information, sell food and/or drinks, provide games for children, etc.), stag,-
performances, and a participation of about 500 parents and children. The event will be open to the
public at no cost. Your support of this event is critical for it to be successful.
We would like to request the following items from the City of Rosemead, and that the City of
Rosemead provide these items at no charge to the organizing committee:
• 1 stage without canopy
• 2Kbooths with top tarps
• 2ftables (1 per booth)
• 50 chairs (2 per booth)
Attached for your review are the event proposal, and copies of the Certificate of Insurance and
approved Rosemead High School Facilities Request.
The Asian Pacific Family Center and our co-sponsoring organizers are committed to providing the
education necessary to minimize family deterioration and to promote the strengths of bicultural
families. Our hope is that the "Healthy Families Festival: In Celebration of Red Ribbon Week"
community event will give families an opportunity to spend time with each other and at the same
time learn more about community issues and resources.
