A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF ROSEMEAD DECLARING
SEPTEMBER 14th THROUGH 20th, 1998 AS
"SAN GABRIEL VALLEY WEEK"
WHEREAS, the San Gabriel Valley has become an economic engine in Southern California with
critical industry clusters in high technology, research and international trade; and
WHEREAS, the cities comprising the San Gabriel Valley have become known for their
innovative approaches to conducting businesses and providing public services; and
WHEREAS, it is important to establish a marketable identity to attract national and international
firms looking for opportunities in Los Angeles County; and
WHEREAS, the San Gabriel Valley is the home of the Tournament of Roses Parade, the Rose
Bowl, Descanso Gardens, the Los Angeles County Arboretum, the Huntington
Library, the Los Angeles County Fair, the California Institute of Technology, the
City of Hope, as well as the corporate home for Edison International, and the
thriving Longo Toyota dealership and many quality shopping malls and fine
restaurants; and
WHEREAS, it is only becoming known now that the San Gabriel Valley offers an extremely high
quality of living, in addition to serving as an outstanding place to do business; and
WHEREAS, the San Gabriel Valley Commerce and Cities Consortium's will hold its Economic
Outlook Conference on Thursday, September 17, 1998 focusing on Valley industry
priorities and opportunities; and
WHEREAS, the San Gabriel Valley Council of Governments will hold its 2nd Annual Dinner
honoring the contributions of elected officials from congressional, Assembly,
Senate and local government.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED the City Council of the City of Rosemead, along
with the cities in the San Gabriel Valley, declares the third week in September, 1998 as "San
Gabriel Valley Week" to celebrate the contributions and accomplishments of the San Gabriel
Valley.
PASSED, APPROVED and ADOPTED THIS 8th DAY OF SEPTEMBER, 1998.
