MOM
parks and recreation programs are an integral part of communities
throughout this country, including the City of Rosemead, California; and
WHEREAS, parks and recreation programs build healthy, active communities that aid
in the prevention of chronic disease, provide therapeutic recreation
services for those who are mentally or physically disabled, and also
improve the mental and emotional health of all citizens; and
WHEREAS, parks and recreation programs increase a community's economic
prosperity through increased property values, expansion of the local tax
base, increased tourism, the attraction and retention of businesses, and
crime reduction; and
WHEREAS, parks and recreation areas are fundamental to the environmental well-
being of our community; and
WHEREAS, parks and natural recreation areas improve water quality, protect
groundwater, prevent flooding, improve the quality of the air we breathe,
provide vegetative buffers to development, and produce habitat for
wildlife; and
WHEREAS, our parks and natural recreation areas ensure the ecological beauty of our
community and provide a place for children and adults to connect with
nature and recreate outdoors; and
WHEREAS, the U.S. House of Representatives has designated July as Park and
Recreation Month; and
WHEREAS, the City of Rosemead recognizes the benefits derived from parks and
recreation resources.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE Rosemead City Council that July 2018 is
recognized as Park and Recreation Month in the City of Rosemead on this 10th day of July 2018.

National Night Out
August 7, 2018
WHEREAS, the National Association of Town Watch is sponsoring the 35th Annual
National Night Out event on Tuesday, August 7, 2018; and
WHEREAS, the Rosemead Public Safety Department, Temple Sheriffs Station,
Rosemead Public Safety CONNECTIONS, Neighborhood Watch Block
Captains and Business Watch Groups, Businesses, and Concerned Citizens
work diligently throughout the year to prevent crime using sound
community policing strategies; and
WHEREAS, Neighborhood awareness, spirit, and cooperation are key components in
fighting crime and in crime prevention efforts; and
WHEREAS, preparing for a disaster and educating the community that they have an
important role in ensuring their own safety and survival during and after
an emergency; and
WHEREAS, "National Night Out" provides an opportunity for Rosemead residents to
join together with thousands of other communities across the United States
on the same day in support of safer neighborhoods and to demonstrate the
value of cooperative crime prevention and emergency preparedness
efforts; and
WHEREAS, the City of Rosemead, also known as "Today's Small Town America",
will commemorate National Night Out with a variety of family fun
activities and crime fighting information along with an Emergency
Preparedness Fair and a Back -To -School Resource Fair at Zapopan Park.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE Rosemead City Council does hereby
proclaim August 7, 2018, as "NATIONAL NIGHT OUT" and encourages all citizens of
Rosemead to participate in the fight against crime by making a visible statement about our
continued commitment to Neighborhood Watch and the Community Area Watch program as an
important part of our effort to combat crime in the City of Rosemead.
