To assist the Commission on the Holiday Decoration Awards discussion, attached is the
list of categories and guidelines.

Holiday Decoration Awards Categories
Enchanted Entryway — Show your spirit with a warm holiday welcome to
your home. We are looking for inviting doors and entryways that set the tone
for the holidays.
The Festivity Award — Cultures around the world celebrate festivals of light in
winter. Dazzle and delight us with lights that capture the warm glow of the holidays.
Celebrating Tradition — Winter celebrations worldwide make the season special.
Delight us with decorations that honor cultural and religious traditions or your
own personal twist. Examples include a manger scene, menorah or kinara.
Christmas with a Twist — This category encourages a whimsical theme. Be
creative. Think about what would have thrilled you when you were a child.
Marie Spadaro Christmas Castle Award (Grand Prize) — Who brought out the
holiday spirit the best? Think sleigh bells, candy canes, evergreen wreaths, Currier
and Ives. This is our grand prize, based on scores in all other categories.
City of Rosemead
Holiday Decoration Awards Guidelines
• Only residences and non -residences, including businesses and non -profits, excluding City facilities,
within the City of Rosemead are eligible for nomination.
• Nominees must have no active code enforcement or other related issues with the City of Rosemead.
• City of Rosemead employees including Councilmembers, appointed officials and their immediate
families are not eligible.
• To be eligible, a prospective nominee (or nominator of same) must submit a completed official
application form signed by the prospective nominee not later than 5:00 p.m. on the designated due
date as determined by the Beautification Commission.
Scoring and photography will take place on the dates indicated in the announcement. Nominees
should have their decorations completed and lit (as appropriate) from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. on
those days.
• The winners will be determined by the highest average score in each of the categories, except for
the Marie Spadaro Christmas Castle Award (MSCCA), which is not scored separately, and will be
determined by the highest overall average among all other categories combined. In the event of a
tie in any category, the winnerwill be chosen by a majority vote among all Beautification Commission
members present at the December meeting.
• No nominee shall win in more than one category.
• Awards will be distributed at a special reception for the nominees held at the Rosemead Community
Recreation Center (3936 N. Muscatel Ave.) the Friday evening of the week following the close of
nominations. (Winners not attending will be notified by phone the following Monday and can pick up
their prizes at City Hall (8838 E. Valley Blvd.). Council recognition for the winners will follow at the
first meeting in January.
• The Award categories and their descriptions shall be as follows:

toward children. Be creative. Think about what would have thrilled you when you were a
child.
•S The Spirit Award (Marie Spadaro Christmas Castle Award) -Who brought out the holiday
