FACILITIES/PARKS
Garvey Community Center- Participants at the Garvey Center were very busy during the
months of November and December. The Garvey Center was able to give away turkeys to some
of the older adults in need of assistance this past holiday season through a contribution made
by the office of Congresswoman Judy Chu. There were 10 turkeys in total that staff was able to
distribute. The center also hosted an ugly sweater party during the older adult lunch program.
There were 99 participants in attendance where 5 lucky winners took home gift cards for their
creative sweaters. January will be a quiet month, but the center will continue to host its regular
activities of arts and crafts, bingo and movie days.
The older adult excursions continued to do well during the months of November and
December. Trips to Old Town San Diego, the Tamale Festival, Holiday Lights at the Riverside
Mission Inn and at the Harbor Cruise in Huntington Beach were very well attended. New
excursions for 2020 have been scheduled and registration will open on January 6. First
excursion will be to Valley View Casino on February 5.
With a generous donation from Temple City residents, the Garvey Center was able to acquire
new tables for the sewing classes. The center has also added a new bingo console and board.
Rosemead Community Center Los Angeles County is improving how we vote! Demonstrations
of the new voting system were held at the Rosemead Community Center from December 4-21,
2019 to allow residents to experience the new system.
