AQUATICS
Rosemead Aquatic Center is currently open to the Rosemead Rapids Swim Team with a total of
75 participants. We look forward to re-opening for lap swim and aqua aerobics for spring.
Within the last few weeks, both the Rosemead Aquatic Center and the Splash Zone have had
annual maintenance to ensure equipment is running properly. The Aquatics division is currently
looking to hire Lifeguards, Instructors, Aquatic Attendants, and Assistant Pool Managers in
preparation for spring and summer programs.
FACILITIES/PARKS
Athletic Fields- As of February 1st, all athletic fields have been reopened for youth sports
organizations. The guideline allows organizations to return for only practices, clinics and skill
building activities. Competitions and tournaments are prohibited until further notice.
Garvey Community Center- Distribution of frozen and fresh meals by the Garvey Community
Center staff continued during the month of February. The distribution is still being held as a
Drive-and-Go Lunch Program on Mondays and Wednesdays. Due to the colder weather,
participants have continued to line up inside the facility. It will be reevaluated and monitored
for inclement weather which will determine a proper time to return outdoors. The Sweethearts
Jamboree Drive-In Bingo Social was held in the Garvey Center south parking lot on February 18.
There were lots of decorations, music and treats from Nothing Bundt Cakes in Rosemead. Staff
also recognized this year’s cutest couple, Silvia and Chester Jung. The Garvey Center also
celebrated Valentine’s Day and Lunar New Year during the Drive-and-Go meal program. Staff
made Valentine’s Day cards and candy was handed out on February 10. For the Lunar New
year, staff gave away red envelopes with chocolate coins, as well as mini cakes. The cakes were
generously donated by Nothing Bundt Cakes. St. Patrick’s Day will be celebrated during the
Drive-and-Go program on March 17 and the Drive-in Bingo Social on March 18.

The Garvey Community Center resumed its partnership with the LA Food Bank at the beginning
of February. There was a very good response to the return of the program as over 190 boxes
were handed out.
New Community Garden- The 2nd Temporary Community Garden officially opened to
participants on Monday, February 22. The garden is located at 3224 Del Mar Avenue. Staff
placed the finishing touches on the garden to have it ready for our lucky residents. A special
thanks goes out to our Public Works team for all of their hard work in transforming the space.
Applications are available online. As of today, there are only 3 out of the 25 plots still available
for lease. The fee of $60 is an annual fee. Staff is currently working on phase two of the garden
which will include the educational and show garden.

contacted last week by a corporation that is interested in leasing the property for a water
