SUBJECT: DISCUSSION OF A PROCLAMATION FOR PRIDE MONTH
SUMMARY
The City received a request to issue a Pride Proclamation for the month of June. The proposed
proclamation is being brought before the City Council for discussion and direction. If approved
the proclamation will be agendized for the following City Council meeting.
STAFF RECOMMENDATION
That the City Council discuss and provide further direction to staff.

Draft Pride Month Proclamation
DECLARING JUNE 2021 AS
"PRIDE MONTH"
WHEREAS, Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer Pride Month is designed to
commemorate the history of the gay rights movement and display the unity and pride of
the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer community (LGBTQ); and
WHEREAS the City of Rosemead's LGBTQ community is a vital part of all fields and
professions and contribute to a stronger community; and
WHEREAS, many of the residents, students, city employees, and business owners within
the City of Rosemead who contribute to the enrichment of our City are a part of the lesbian,
gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and questioning community; and
WHEREAS, various advancements have been made with respect to equitable treatment of
lesbians, gay, bisexual, transgendered, queer, and questioning persons throughout the
nation, but there continues to be some opposition against people from this community and
around the world making it important for cities like Rosemead to show support for our
residents who are affected; and
WHEREAS all people regardless of age, gender identity, race, color, religion, marital
status, national origin, sexual orientation, or physical challenges have the right to be treated
on the basis of their intrinsic value as human beings; and
WHEREAS, June has become a symbolic month in which lesbian, gay, bisexual,
transgender, queer, questioning, and other sexual minorities as well as their supporters
come together in various celebrations of pride; and
WHEREAS the City of Rosemead is dedicated to fostering acceptance of all its citizens
and preventing discrimination and bullying based on sexual orientation and gender identity;
and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Rosemead City Council, California
does hereby proclaim the month of June 2021 as "Pride Month" and encourages all citizens
of Rosemead to join in recognizing the culture, accomplishments, and contributions of
LGBTQ people in our community, and to reflect on ways we all can live and work together
with a commitment to mutual respect and understanding.
