Declaring September 28, 2021
as "National Voter Registration Day"
WHEREAS, One of the most fundamental and sacred rights of our country is the right to vote;
In order for our government to function effectively and respond to the needs of our
people, citizens must play a role in shaping it. Each year on National Voter Registration
Day, we reaffirm the strong sense of civic duty and encourage family members, friends,
and neighbors to get involved by registering to vote; and
WHEREAS, According to U.S. Census data from 2020, as many as 1 in 4 eligible Americans are not
registered to vote. Every year, millions of Americans find themselves unable to vote
because they miss a registration deadline, do not update their registration, or are not
sure how to register. National Voter Registration Day wants to make sure everyone
has the opportunity to vote; and
WHEREAS, Nearly 4.5 million voters across all 50 states have registered to vote on National Voter
Registration Day, including 1.5 million in 2020 alone; and
WHEREAS, National Voter Registration Day is a day of civic unity. It's an opportunity to
set aside differences, enjoy the rights and opportunities we all share as Americans,
and celebrate our democracy; and
WHEREAS, the City of Rosemead encourages civic engagement and is committed to empowering
all residents to be informed how to register, request mail -in ballots, learn about early
voting options, and have access to more voting resources.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Rosemead City Council does hereby proclaim
September 28, 2021 as:

in the City of Rosemead and encourages the community to get involved by registering and
exercising their right to vote.
