MATTERS FRO1VI'CITY MANAGER & STAFF A. COVID=19 Update This is a recurring item that will be on the agenda to update the City Council on items related to COVID-19. Recommendation: That the City Council discuss and provide further direction. Rosemead City Council Special and Regular Meeting Minutes of February 8, 2022 Page 4 of 6 City Manager Molleda reported the City partnered with Mountain Castle Marketing to provide COVID-19 testing services at the Rosemead Community Recreation Center. The COVID testing site operates every Friday until the end of February. The City also obtained 2,000 COVID-19 test kits to distribute to the public. In partnership with Chinatown Service Center, a vaccination clinic is scheduled for February 9, at the Rosemead Community Recreation Center. As of date, there are 10,145 confirmed Rosemead COVID-19 cases and 174 deaths. Mayor `Pro Tem Dang agreed with Council Member Armenta to bring the street parking item to allow the rest of the Council to discuss the item. Council Member Armenta stated the Council had not fully discussed the issues about a retaining wall across from Rice Elementary School. She inquired who is responsible for removing graffiti from the wall. She inquired if the resident is responsible since the wall is on private property. She requested the item be placed on a future agenda to discuss. Rosemead City Council Special and Regular Meeting Minutes of February 8, 2022 Page 5 of 6 City Manager Molleda stated graffiti on private businesses and private properties is handled by Code Enforcement Officers. They give businesses owners and property owners a notice to make sure they take care of the graffiti abatement. Mayor Low agreed the graffiti topic should be brought back for discussion. The City may need to change the way the process is done because there is a cost involved. In addition, she requested to add to the agenda for discussion the formation of a Public Safety Commission as she has received calls about businesses being broken into along Garvey Avenue; noted one business was broken.,- into at least three times. The Public Safety Commission could look at the, current safety problems in the City and work with the Sheriff's Department and,C*staff to improve public safety in the community.'
