Mayor Clark stated that this evening's meeting will be adjourned in memory of Helen
Smith Hasbrouck. Mrs. Hasbrouck and her husband were long-time community activists.
Mayor Clark announced that tonight's meeting will adjourn also in memory of Deputy David
March commemorating the second anniversary of his death. Deputy March was gunned down
two years ago during a routine traffic stop. The killer escaped to Mexico and remains free in that
country. Mayor Clark stated that the City, the League of California Cities and the National
League of Cities have passed resolutions asking Mexico to revise their extradition policy. Mrs.
Clark continued that Mexico refuses to extradite criminals if the United States is seeking the
death penalty or life imprisonment without parole. Mrs. Clark stated that this is a grave injustice.
A special Rally for Deputy March is being held on May 80' at the College of the Canyons in
Santa Clarita.
Councilman Taylor asked that the meeting also be adjourned in memory of slain
California Highway Patrol Officer Thomas Steiner.
