A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF ROSEMEAD ASKING ALL ORGAN17-ATIONS
TO ELIMINATE THE SERVING OF INTOXICATING
BEVERAGES AT CHRISTMAS AND NEW YEAR'S
OFFICE PARTIES.
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ROSEMEAD DOES RESOLVE AS
FOLLOWS:
WHEREAS, the Christmas season marks that time of year
in which we celebrate a holiday dedicated to "Peace-on Earth
and Good Will Toward Men"; and
WHEREAS, the prevailing spirit of Yuletide fellowship
is often marred by the irony of our citizens going out on the
public highways to injure or destroy their fellow men in sense-
less,traffic accidents, thereby-turning a time of joy and
happiness into one of heart-break and despair; and
WHEREAS, the Greater Los Angeles Chapter National
Safety Council reminds us that more fatal traffic accidents,
including more pedestrian deaths, happen each Christmas Eve
than at any other camparable time of the year, with darkness,
speed, alcohol and pedestrian errors the causes of the high
toll, and
WHEREAS, this year many persons will have a three-day
holiday both at Christmas and New Year's, the Safety Council
Sears the season's highway toll may reach an all-time high
unless drivers and pedestrians take extra precaution; and
WHEREAS, the Greater Los Angeles Chapter National Safety
Council is asking all organizations to eliminate the serving of
alcoholic beverages at trditional office Christmas parties as
a prictical attempt to eliminate a definite source of death
and destruction on the highway;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Rosemead City
Council supports the program of the Greater Los Angeles
Chapter National Safety Council and urges all organizations
having parties and celebrations for the Christmas season to
abstain from the use of intoxicants which contribute so
substantially to holiday traffic accidents.
