RESOLUTION NO. 61-34
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF ROSEMEAD COMMENDING THE CITY
COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DUARTE UPON ITS
ACTION RELATING TO GAMBLING
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ROSEMEAD DOES HEREBY
RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:
WHEREAS, a measure providing for commercial draw poker
establishments in the City of Duarte was presented to the
City Council of the Cityy of Duarte and was by it unanimously
disapproved at the May 8, 1961 meeting of said City Council, and
WHEREAS, such proposal would have permitted the establish-
ment in the San Gabriel Valley of commercial gambling establish-
ments, sometimes known as poker parlors, and
WHEREAS, such establishments, where permitted, have
proved to result in police problems, the attraction of criminal
and other undesirable elements, and have been found to be
generally detrimental to the morals, peace and welfare of the
community,
NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of Rosemead
hereby commends the City Council of the City of Duarte upon its
prompt, decisive action in immediately rejecting a proposal for
the establishment of gambling institutions in the City of Duarte
and expresses its appreciation to the Duarte City Council for
discouraging the introduction of the undesirable elements incident
to such establishments into the San Gabriel Valley.
RESOLVED FURTHER that a certified copy ofthis resolu-
tion be forwarded to the Mayor of the City of Duarte.
