CC - 1961 - 80 - Safety Council Program Christmas in DrivingRESOLUTION NO. 61-;F° RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ROSEMEAD SUPPORTING THE SAFETY COUNCIL PROGRAM "KEEP CHRISTMAS IN YOUR DRIVING". WHEREAS, the Christmas season marks that time of year in which we celebrate a holiday dedicated to "Peace on Earth and Good Will Toward Men"; and WHEREAS, the prevailing spirit of Yuletide fellowship is often marred by the occurrence of needless traffic accidents, turning a time of joy and happiness into one of heartbreak and despair; and % WHEREAS, the Greater Los Angeles Chapter of the National Safety Council reminds us that more fatal traffic accidents, including more pedestrian deaths, happen each Christmas Eve than at any other comparable time of the year, with darkness, speed, alcohol and pedestrian errors the causes of the high toll; and WHEREAS, this year both Christmas and New Year's will be three-day holidays, the Safety Council fears the season's highway toll may reach an all-time high unless drivers and pedestrians take extra precaution; and WHEREAS, the Greater Los Angeles Chapter of the National Safety Council is asking all organizations to eliminate the serving of alcoholic beverages at traditional office Christmas parties as a practical attempt to eliminate a definate source of death and destruction on the highway; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Rosemead fully supportthe Safety Council program, "Keep Christmas In Your Driving", and urges all our citizens to do everything in their power to avoid accidents during the holiday season; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City of Rosemead supports the program of the Greater Los Angeles Chapter of the National Safety Council and urges all organizations having parties and celebrations for the Christmas season to abstain from the use of intoxicants which contribute so sub- stantially to holiday traffic accidents.
