A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF ROSEMEAD URGENTLY RE-
QUESTING THE NORTH VIETNAMESE AND
VIET CONG TO IMMEDIATELY RELEASE ALL
AMERICAN PRISONERS OF WAR STILL IN
THEIR CUSTODY.
WHEREAS- the City Council ofRosemead represents
the 40,000 residents of this city; and
WHEREAS, the City Council of Rosemead communicates
directly and frequently with the governing body and other
officials of-Los•Angeles County, which has a population of
more than 7,000,000 people; and
WHEREAS, the immediate release of the American
prisoners of war still retained by the North Vietnamese
and Viet Cong would greatly further the ends of peace by
strongly indicating to all nations of the world that
North Vietnam and the Viet Cong earnestly seek an early
end to the present conflict; and
WHEREAS, the immediate release of the afore-
mentioned American prisoners of war would significantly
assist and promote the efforts of the United States to
withdraw its combat forces from Vietnam; and
WHEREAS, the continued unjustified incarceration
of the aforementioned American prisoners of war can only
fuel the fire of determination in the United States to
continue active participation in the conflict;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City
Council of Rosemead does hereby urgently request the
government of North Vietnam and the Viet Cong to immediately
release all American prisoners of war still in their custody
thereby assuring that these men may rejoin- their families
for the forthcoming holiday season, and substantially
increasing the hope for world peace.
