A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF ROSEMEAD.
WHEREAS, The Christmas season,marks that time of
year In which we celebrate A holiday dedicated to "Peace on
Earth and Good Will Toward Men"; and
WHEREAS, the preva;llingg sq.1 it. of Yuletide fellowship
is often marred by the ir'ny,of.our citizens going out on
the public highways td Tlure,or de$$troy their fellow men
in senseless traffic,acctdents; thbi by turning a time of joy
and happiness into Oki off he21i4rea'iand despair; and
WHEREAS, the Ooh eF Ltfss an~g{.. Safety Council
reminds us that more fete doff 61acc Lents, including more
pedestrian deaths, happen each Christmas Eve than at any
other comparable time of the year, with darkness, speed,
alcohol and pedestrian errors the causes of the high toll;
and
WHEREAS, this year many persons will have a three-day
holiday both at Christmas and New Year's, the Safety Council
fears the season's highway toll may reach an all-time high
unless drivers and pedestrians take extra precaution; and
WHEREAS, the Greater Los Angeles Safety Council is
asking all organizations to eliminate the serving of alcoholic
beverages at traditional office Christmas parties as a
practical attempt to eliminate a definite source of death and
destruction on the highway;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Rosemead City
Council fully support the Safety Council program, "For a
Happy Holiday, Give..... In Traffic", and urges all our
citizens to do everything in their power to avoid accidents
during the holiday season; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Rosemead City Council
supports the program of the Greater Les Angeles Safety Council
and urges all organizations having parties and celebrations
for the Christmas season to abstain from the use of intoxicants
which contribute sm substantially to holiday traffic accidents.
