A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF ROSEMEAD ENDORSING THE
STATE-SENATE REAPPORTIONMENT PLAN ADVOCATED BY
HONORABLE FRANK G. BONELLI, SUPERVISOR OF THE FIRST
SUPERVISORIAL'DISTRICT OF THE COUNTY OF LOS ANGELES,
WHEREAS, the City of Rosemead was recently informed that
Supervisor Bonelli has filed the-official.reques't of the Attorney
General to prepare the title and summary of the initiative con-
stitutional amendment for equitable representation in the W if-
ornia State Senate; and
WHEREAS, Los Angeles County with its 6.5 million residents
should have more than one Senator to adequately and fairly repre-
sent the County of Los Angeles and its many cities located therein.
WHEREAS, the initiative proposal calls for the creation
of 10 new Senatorial posts in heavily populated areas, with Los
Angeles County receiving a total of 6 Senators, and San Diego,
Orange, San Francisco, Alameda and Santa Clara Counties two each,
with one Senator for each of the remaining 34 districts;
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Rosemead has
heretofore thoroughly studied the said reapportionment plan and
believes it would be for the best interest of the City of Rosemead
in the event such a plan were adopted by the people of the State
of California;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the members of the
Rosemead City Council actively support the initiative amendment;
and
BE IT FURTIHER!RESOLVED that on the first day of circulation
of said petition there be an official signing by th-e members of
the City Council in the Council Chambers in order to demonstrate
to the citizens of Rosemead the unqualified support of the members
of this body for the need of this initiative petition; and
FURTHER, that we request every registered voter of the
City of Rosemead and of Los Angeles County to immediately sign
the initiative reapportionment petition.
