A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF ROSEMEAD URGING THE BOARD OF
SUPERVISORS TO PLACE ON THE NOVEMBER,
1962 BALLOT A PROPOSITION TO PROHIBIT
COMMERCIALIZED POKER
WHEREAS, Assembly Bill No. 9 was duly adopted by the
State Legislature and has been signed into law by the Governor
of the State of California, and
WHEREAS, said Assembly Bill permits the Board of Super-
visors of the County of Los Angeles to place on the ballot
a proposition to prohibit the playing of draw poker or low
ball poker in the county and in the cities within the county,
and
WHEREAS, recently incorporated cities within the County
have been victimized by professional gambling interests harrass-
i.ng the cities governments and citizens in an attempt to obtain
their objectives, and
WHEREAS, every responsible law enforcement official in
state and county government has stated repeatedly that legalized
gambling inevitably invites into a community where it exists
the worst social elements and causes sharp increases in the
crime rate of the community,
NOW, THEREFORE BE
City of Rosemead that the
Los Angeles is hereby str,
1962 ballot a proposition
and low ball poker within
County, and
IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the
Board of Supervisors of the County of
3ngly urged to place on the November
to prohibit the playing of draw poker
the territorial limits of Los Angeles
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk be instructed
to send a copy of this resolution to the Los Angeles County
Division of the League of California Cities with the request
that similar action be taken by the League.
PASSED, APPROVED AND ADOPTED this 12th day of June, 1962.
