CC - 1962 - 40 - In Honor of Florence E. BergRESOLUTION NO. 62-40 RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ROSEMEAD IN HONOR OF FLORENCE E. BERG THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ROSEMEAD DOES HEREBY RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS: WHEREAS, Florence E. Berg has served for thirty years on the iibrary staff of the Los Angeles County Public Library, and during the last twenty-nine years has been branch librarian, serving the library branch located within the area that is now the City of Rosemead, and WHEREAS, throughout her entire career of service at the Rosemead Branch Library Miss'Berg has made regular visits to schools, taking books to stimulate young literary appetites, has instructed young and old alike in ways to gain the most benefit from the use of libraries; has evidenced her interest in education by attending regularly the meetings of Parent Teacher Associations in the area, has counseled vast numbers of mothers on books relating to child care problems, has stimulated the interest of innumerable children in literature and literary works, has assisted many college students in many and varied research projects and has been reading supervisor and helpful friend to all who have entered her library, and WHEREAS., while performing a service as librarian far beyond the requirements and duties of her position, Miss Berg has taken an active interest in community affairs, has been a member of the Rosemead Woman's Club for more than twenty-eight years, has been a member of the Thursday Study Club and, since the formation of the City of Rosemead History Committee, has served as a valuable member thereof, and WHEREAS, Miss Berg was honored with a lifetime membership in the PTA in 1949, received a Girl Scout Award in 1951 for her interest and support of scouting and was honored in 1956 by 35 civic organizations which joined to pay tribute to her splendid contribution to the community, and WHEREAS, Florence E. Berg has been nominated by the County Public Library as its outstanding employee of the year and has been selected by the Los Angeles County Employees Association as the Association's nominee as Outstanding County Employee of the Year in California in competition with other outstanding county employees for an award to be presented at the State League of County Employees Association, and WHEREAS, through her public career Florence E. Berg has symbolized the spirit of the public library service and has exempli- fied dedicated public service, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Rosemead, State of California, on behalf of its members and officers of the City of Rosemead, as well as its citizens, commends and extends its sincere appreciation to Florence E. Berg for the years of dedicated public service in behalf of the people of Rosemead and expresses its particular gratitude for her immeasurable contributions to the literary interest and culture of the community. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this testimonial to Florence E. Berg be permanently recorded upon the records of this City as a continuing recognition by this City Council of her genuine worth to the community and as a continuing tribute to her outstanding achieve- ments and service.
