CC - 1962 - 49 - Increased Highway User TaxesC 6 RESOLUTION NO. 62-49 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ROSEMEAD REQUESTING THE LEAGUE OF CALIFORNIA CITIES TO SUPPORT LEGISLATION PROVIDING FOR INCREASED HIGHWAY USER TAXES WHEREAS, the League of California Cities has requested the City of Rosemead to indicate whether it supports legislation providing for increased highway user taxes; and WHEREAS, Los Angeles County is now a vast urban area containing 73 cities with a total population in excess of 6,330,000 concentrating over three million vehicles within its 4,000 square miles, whose population and vehicle registration exceed that of any one of 42 individual states; and WHEREAS, this expanding population and vehicle regis- tration generate highway deficiencies resulting in excessive social and economic loss through increased traffic fatalities, accidents, congestion and delay; and WHEREAS, in order to eliminate the existing and con- templated critical deficiencies of our highway systems, and to provide road facilities to accommodate the future development of this area, it is essential that increased financing be made available for the construction of streets in the urban areas of Los Angeles County; and WHEREAS, Cities throughout California are currently demonstrating their concern for traffic needs by financing more than 75% of street improvements from local funds which could be expended for some other purpose, NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ROSEMEAD DOES HEREBY RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. That the City Council of the City of Rosemead oe~ s 7ereby affirm its approval and support of pro- posed legislation for the increase of highway user taxes. Section 2. That the League of California Cities be and it hereby is respectfully requested to place the matter of increasing highway user taxes on its 1963 legislative pro- gram and to take vigorous action to support such legislation at the 1963 session of the California Legislature. Section 3. That a certified copy of this resolution be transmitted by the City Clerk to the League of California Cities. 1962 PASSED, APPROVED AND ADOPTED this 14th day of August, .
