Mr. Saeki reported that he is currently directing the architect to proceed with the
creation of the schematic design for the renovation. In the next few weeks,
preliminary design of the structure and interior model will be available for the
Commission consideration. Once the design development is approved by the
council, architects will take between 60 to 90 days to draft construction
documents. Renovation is proposed to occur in three potential phases:
Phase 1: Council Chambers;
Phase 2: Administrative Offices; and
Phase 3: Planning Area
After the plans are complete, an open bid process will take place. Construction is
expected to take between five to seven months.
Note: Commissioner Imperial joined the meeting at 7:13 pm; Mr. Saeki briefly
summarized the renovation timeline for him.
City Attorney Wallin asked where Council meetings will take place during
construction. Mr. Saeki indicated they could take place at the new Safety Center
on Garvey or the Rosemead Community Center.
