CC - 1965 - 05 - U.S. Highway 101 San Clemente to Del Mar• • RESOLUTION N0. 65-5 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ROSEMEAD RE U. S. HIGHWAY 101 FROiM SAN CLEMENTE,TO DEL MAR, WHEREAS, U. S. Highway 101 from San Clemente to Del Mar has the highest traffic fatality record of any similar section of highway in the State, and possibly in the Nation; and WHEREAS, forty-six persons have died in auto crashes along this thirty-six mile section of highway during the year 1964, causing said highway to be popularly known as "blood alley's or "slaughter alley;" and WHEREAS, construction of a.new freeway through this section is not slated for completion until 1968; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. That the City Council of the City of Rosemead does ere y urge the California State Division of Highways, the California Highway Patrol, and other involved State agencies to take immediate measures to accelerate the schedule for the construction of said new section of the free- way and, in the meantime, to take immediate action to cause the construction of a center divider along said stretch of Highway 101 and to also increase the level of traffic' law enforcement by the Highway Patrol in said area. Section 2. That the City Clerk is directed to forward copies of this esolution to the Governor of the State of Calif- ornia, the California Highway Commission, the California Highway Patrol, other appropriate state officers and agencies, the League of California Cities, and the California Contract Cities Association.
