A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
ROSEMEAD IN SUPPORT OF THE PROPOSAL TO CONDUCT
A WORLD'S FAIR IN THE CITY OF LOS ANGELES
WHEREAS, according to extensive studies the proposed
California World's Fair would place the State of California and
the Los Angeles Metropolitan Area in the national and international
spotlight, would result in favorable international and national
publicity and would call attention dramatically to the ascendency
of California to its status as the most populous state in the
United States, and
WHEREAS, economic studies indicate that the proposed
Exposition would be attended by approximately 43,000,000 persons,
would result in the expenditure of many millions of dollars in
Los Angeles and surrounding communities, including the City of
Rosemead, and would have an economic impact on the State of Calif-
ornia of approximately $1,300,000,000, and
WHEREAS, it is estimated that taxes accruing to the State
of California from sales occasioned or stimulated by the proposed
Fair would exceed $30,000,000 and increased taxes would also accrue,
in some degree, to all of the cities in the area of influence of
the proposed World's Fair, and
WHEREAS, such an international attraction would provide
construction and numerous jobs at a time when there is increasing
unemployment in certain facets of Southern California's economy,
particularly defense industries and residential construction, and
WHEREAS, such an international exposition would be the
first ever held in the great metropolitan area and would constitute
a great attraction as well as an educational opportunity for the
citizens of our city, county and state, and
WHEREAS, the endorsement of the proposed World's Fair as
a special exposition on Transportation and Communications by the
Bureau of International Expositions, an international organization
of thirty one nations, should result in the participation in the
proposed Fair by many nations of the world and have a favorable
effect on international relations and good will among the peoples
of the world,
N014 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. That the City Council of the City of Rosemead
enthusiastic-' aTlly endorses the concept of a World's Fair to be held
in Los Angeles in April of 1968 and assures the City of Los Angeles
of its cooperation with respect to all matters relating to said
Fair which would fall within the jurisdiction and cognizance of
the City of Rosemead.
Section 2. That a copy of this resolution be duly
certifieU-Fy -the City Clerk and forwarded to the Mayor and City
Council of the City of Los Angeles.
