RESOLUTION N0. 65-17
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF ROSEMEAD URGING THE BOARD OF
SUPERVISORS TO TAKE SUCH ACTION AS
REASONABLY NECESSARY TO SAVE THE EL MONTE
AIRPORT AS A GENERAL AVIATION FACILITY.
WHEREAS, the E1 Monte Airport facility is the only
airport in the San Gabriel Valley serving the cities of Arcadia,
Alhambra, Azusa, Bradbury, El Monte, Pasadena, Rosemead, San
Gabriel, South San Gabriel and South El Monte, said cities
together constituting a population of approximately one million
people, and
WHEREAS, the owner of the E1 Monte Airport has declar-
ed his intention of closing the El Monte Airport, and
WHEREAS, the El Monte Airport is an important arm of
industry in the San Gabriel Valley area, and serves the numerous
persons interested in general aviation,. and
WHEREAS, the loss of the El Monte Airport will be
suffered by all future generations engaged directly or indirect-
ly in general aviation, and
WHEREAS, the Stanford Research Institute has recommended
the saving of E1 Monte Airport, and
WHEREAS, the Board of Supervisors is the only legislative
body presently able to save this most valuable aviation facility;
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ROSEMEAD
DOES RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. The City Council of the City of Rosemead
does hereby recommend to the Board of Supervisors that it take
immediate steps to preserve the E1 Monte Airport as a general
aviation facility; that in order to enable a comprehensive plan
of acquisition the County of Los Angeles forthwith lease the
El Monte Airport, immediately following which a study be made
as to the most feasible method of acquisition of said airport
to the end that eventually the County of Los Angeles own and
operate said facility for the use of present and future genera-
tions of those engaged in general aviation in the San Gabriel
Valley.
Section 2. The City Clerk is directed to forward a
certified copy otthis resolution to Supervisor Frank G. Bonelli
and to the Clerk of said Board.
PASSED, APPROVED and ADOPTED this 23rd day of
February, 1965.
