AQUATICS
Online registration for Fall swim lessons began on September 5, 2023. All classes filled up within the first
two days. Swim lessons began on September 23, 2023, and will continue every Saturday until October
14, 2023.
The Rosemead Aquatic Center and Splash Zone were open for Recreation Swim on Labor Day,
September 4, 2023. The Splash Zone then closed for the summer on Sunday, September 24, 2023. The
Rosemead Aquatic Center continues to remain open for Aqua Fit on Mondays and Wednesdays from
5:30pm to 6:10pm, and for Lap Swim Monday through Friday from 5:00pm to 8:00pm and Saturdays
from 10:00am to 12:00pm. If you are looking to cool off and enjoy water fitness, then make sure to try
out a class!
FACILITIES/PARKS
Garvey Community Center
Senior Bingo – On Wednesday, September 6, 2023, the Garvey Community Center hosted its monthly
Bingo Social. The activity included snacks such as popcorn and nachos and a beverage for each
participant. General winners took home a $5 gift card, and the overall bingo winner took home a $20
gift card. In total, twenty-nine seniors took part in the program.
Senior Craft Class – The Garvey Community Center hosted its senior craft class on Monday, September
11, during which each participant made a decoupage craft. In total, twenty-one seniors took part in the
activity. The next craft class will be on Monday, October 9, from 12:00pm to 1:00pm.
Senior Fiesta Luncheon – The Senior Fiesta Luncheon was held on Thursday, September 14, 2023, from
11:00am to 1:30pm at the Garvey Center. The Senior Fiesta Luncheon featured a lunch consisting of
tacos with a choice of three different meats, rice, beans, dessert, and more. The Luncheon included
fiesta themed décor and raffles for all to enjoy! Musical entertainment was provided by Bobby Z. and he

played everyone’s favorite classic hits. Tickets for the event were sold-out with one hundred and fifty
(150) seniors in attendance. The next Senior Luncheon event will be an Alice in Wonderland themed
Halloween Social held on Thursday October 26. Tickets are now on sale at the Garvey Center.
Senior Excursions – The Garvey Center’s Senior Excursion program provides high quality trips for
seniors. Trips depart from the Garvey Center and include experienced staff to help guide the way.
Registration is now open to both residents and non-residents (aged 55 years or older) for all the
upcoming trips. Senior excursions currently available include:
· Ronald Regan Presidential Library – September 28
· Valley View Casino – October 12
· Oktoberfest Big Bear Lake – October 22
· Celebrate Dia De Los Muertos in Los Angeles at Olvera Street – November 2
· Temecula and Falkner Winery & Tour – November 9
Case Management Services - The Parks and Recreation Department will soon be offering Senior Case
Management Services through YWCA San Gabriel Valley senior services. The case management services
will be offered on site at the Garvey Center to seniors 60+, frail or disabled adults aged 18-59. The case
management services will provide a broad array of services that with the goal for them to remain in
their homes for as long as possible. These services include but are not limited to: Access to services such
as transportation, case management, information, and assistance; and in-home services such as
personal care, chore, and homemaker assistance. Community services such as legal services, mental
health services, and adult day care. Community education and related programming that help to
coordinate and integrate services for seniors such as health screening, exercise/health programs, etc.
The case management services will be provided once a week at the Garvey Center final date and time
are to be determined.
SPECIAL EVENTS
Virtual Family Trivia Night – Our Virtual Family Trivia Night took place on Friday, September 8, 2023.
Ten families took part in the event, testing their knowledge on Landmarks, Monuments, and Wonders of
the World.
September 11th Remembrance Ceremony – The City of Rosemead gathered to remember the events of
September 11, 2001, at its annual Remembrance Ceremony which took place on Monday, September
11, 2023. This year’s memorial had over 1000 attendees and included a flag-raising ceremony, a parade
of state flags by Scout Troops 511 and 512, a wreath-laying ceremony, and special musical
accompaniment by the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Band.
Farmers Market – On Monday, September 18, 2023, the Parks and Recreation staff were on-site at the
Farmers Market from 5:00pm to 9:00pm with a special autumn craft. Families and individuals alike
enjoyed two arts and crafts projects – a fun scarecrow and/or a Fall tree. All ages were excited to take
their time in creating a special seasonal memento. Families and individuals capped off their evening with
bargains on merchandise and food while taking home their creations. Overall, suggestions were
requested for the Parks and Recreation Department to attend often with more fun activities. Hence, we
will be back in October with a special Halloween photo op!

Pumpkin Dive - The Pumpkin Dive will return to Rosemead this Saturday, September 30 with two time
slots, 12:30 – 1:30 pm and 2:00 – 3:30 pm, at the Rosemead Aquatic Center. The Aquatic Center will be
transformed into a floating pumpkin patch. Participants will be able to jump in, pick a pumpkin and
decorate it. Children 7 years old and under must be accompanied in the water by an adult. Pre-
registration is required, and space will be limited. The cost of the event is $10 per child.
Fall Fiesta/Dia de los Muertos - The Annual Fall Fiesta/Dia de los Muertos Event will be held on
Saturday, October 7 from 4:00-9:00 p.m. at Rosemead Park. If rained out, the reschedule date is
Saturday, November 18 from 2:00-7:00 p.m. The day will be filled with family fun including live
entertainment, community performances, carnival games, laser tag, moon bouncers, and arts & crafts.
Food and merchandise vendors will be available.
COVID-19 and Flu – The Rosemead Community Recreation Center will be hosting a free COVID-19 and
Flu vaccination clinic on Sunday, October 8, 2023 from 9:00am to 12:00pm. Vaccines will be available for
all ages using the updated Pfizer and Moderna Monovalent COIVD 10 Vaccine formulas. For an
appointment, please visit myturn.ca.gov or come as a walk-in patient on a first-come-first-served basis.
Fall Craft Fair – The Garvey Center is currently accepting vendor registration for the Fall Craft Fair which
will be held on Saturday, October 14, 2023, from 10:00am to 2:00pm at the Garvey Center. Prices are $5
per table for residents and $10 per table for non-residents, with a maximum of three tables per vendor.
The event will feature artisan-made arts and crafts that will add ambiance to the holiday season.
Admission to the craft fair is free to the public.
Pumpkin Patch – Registration is now open for the Annual Pumpkin Patch hosted by Parks and
Recreation and CultivaLA. The event will be held on Saturday, October 21, from 3:00pm to 6:00pm at
the Del Mar Community Garden. Each child registered will receive 1 free pumpkin of their choosing
along with some tasty treats and a special giveaway!
Trunk or Treat & Haunted House - The City will be hosting its Annual Trunk or Treat event on Tuesday,
October 31 from 5:30pm to 8:30pm. Children will be able to pick out goodies from the trunks of
decorated cars, play carnival games, and enjoy arts & crafts. Food trucks will be also have food and
treats available for purchase. Applications for a car entry are available and candy donations are
appreciated. We are currently recruiting employees, Commissioners, and local businesses to attend by
bringing their decorated car and passing out candy to over 3000 children. The haunted house will also
take place at the Rosemead Community Center on Friday, October 27 and Saturday, October 29 from
5:30pm to 7:30pm and Tuesday, October 31, from 5:30pm to 8:30pm. The recommended age is 7 years
and up.
Anti-Hate Art Contest – The City of Rosemead’s Anti-Hate Art Contest is now open to students ages 5 to
17 years old who live in the City of Rosemead. Artwork must be an interpretation of one of two themes:
“Love Not Hate” or “We Grow Together”. Artwork will be judged on the following criteria: Interpretation
of the Theme, Technical Skills, Originality, Creativity, and Uniqueness. This year’s contest will include the
submission of digital media in an effort to encourage digital arts students to submit entries as well.

Further information and rules for the Anti-Hate Art Contest are available on the city’s website. All
contest entries must be received at Garvey Center by Friday, November 3, 2023, at 5:00pm.
Pumpkin Derby – The Department of Parks and Recreation is excited to host a new event this year – the
Pumpkin Derby! Participants will get a chance to build and decorate their own pumpkin racers and
compete against other racers in their age division. The Derby will be held on Saturday, November
4, from 10:00am to 1:00pm at the Jess Gonzalez Sports Complex.
ADULT/YOUTH PROGRAMS AND SPORTS
Youth Sports:
Youth Volleyball League – Fall 2023 Youth Volleyball League is back! Games officially began Saturday,
September 23. All games are held at Garvey Park Gym between 9:00am and 3:00pm. We currently have
12 teams and 110 participants this season, which is a big jump from last season when we had only 47
participants. We are also utilizing Temple Intermediate Gym and Garvey Intermediate Gym for practice
during the week between 5:00pm and 10:00pm.
Adult Sports:
Adult Basketball League – The Adult Basketball League kicked off its Fall Season on Sunday, September
24. The league is full with all 8 teams participating. Games are held on Sundays at Garvey Park Gym
between 11:00am and 4:00pm.
