A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF ROSEMEAD OPPOSING THAT
PORTION OF THE PROPOSED,SENATE RE-
APPORTIONMENT BILL WHICH WOULD REQUIRE
ALL OF THE STATE SENATORS OF LOS ANGELES
COUNTY TO BE ELECTED AT LARGE.
WHEREAS it is necessary that the State Senate of the
State of California be reapportioned,; and
WHEREAS it is anticipated that Los Angeles County will,
by reason of such reapportionment, be entitled to a number of
State Senators in excess of its current representation; and
WHEREAS the State Senate of the State of California
is considering the reapportionment of State Senate; and
WHEREAS it has been proposed that not only should
there be an increase in the number of State Senators from Los
Angeles County but also that these State Senators should be
elected in Los Angeles County at large; and
Whereas, the election of State Senators on an at-_
basis for Los Angeles County would make it extremely
difficult for the average State Senatorial candidate to campaign
for election and would further be foreign to the district
representation which is the basis of our political system';
NOW,:THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council
of the City of Rosemead does oppose that portion of the Senate
Reapportionment Bill which would require that all of the State
Senators from Los Angeles County be elected at large..
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk of the City
of Rosemead is directed and authorized to furnish certified copies
of this Resolution to Senator Thomas M. Rees and the City of
Pasadena.
