CC - 1965 - 32 - Reapportionment BillRESOLUTION NO, 65-32 0 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ROSEMEAD OPPOSING THAT PORTION OF THE PROPOSED,SENATE RE- APPORTIONMENT BILL WHICH WOULD REQUIRE ALL OF THE STATE SENATORS OF LOS ANGELES COUNTY TO BE ELECTED AT LARGE. WHEREAS it is necessary that the State Senate of the State of California be reapportioned,; and WHEREAS it is anticipated that Los Angeles County will, by reason of such reapportionment, be entitled to a number of State Senators in excess of its current representation; and WHEREAS the State Senate of the State of California is considering the reapportionment of State Senate; and WHEREAS it has been proposed that not only should there be an increase in the number of State Senators from Los Angeles County but also that these State Senators should be elected in Los Angeles County at large; and Whereas, the election of State Senators on an at-_ basis for Los Angeles County would make it extremely difficult for the average State Senatorial candidate to campaign for election and would further be foreign to the district representation which is the basis of our political system'; NOW,:THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Rosemead does oppose that portion of the Senate Reapportionment Bill which would require that all of the State Senators from Los Angeles County be elected at large.. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk of the City of Rosemead is directed and authorized to furnish certified copies of this Resolution to Senator Thomas M. Rees and the City of Pasadena.
