CC - 1965 - 39 - Sales Tax Within Cities•
RESOLUTION NO. 65-39
0
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF ROSEMEAD OPPOSING COUNTY SALES
TAX WITHIN CITIES
WHEREAS, under the provisions of A.B. 913 presently
pending before the State Legislature, the County of Los Angeles
would be empowered to levy a one-half cent county wide sales
tax, and
WHEREAS, an additional one-half cent sales tax would be
levied upon all business subject to sales tax transacted within
the City of Rosemead, and
WHEREAS, the County of Los Angeles budget has been
greatly increased each year and further increases are presently
proposed, thereby resulting in an ever increasing tax burden to
the taxpayers of Los Angeles County, including the taxpayers of
the City of Rosemead, and
WHEREAS, the ever mounting tax load to support county
government can be checked only if diligent efforts are made to
check or reduce expenditures, by eliminating all frills and
non-essential county functions and otherwise apply principles
of frugality and thrift to the administration of county business,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF ROSEMEAD that this City Council express its strong
opposition to A.B. 913 or to any other measure which would
authorize or empower county government to levy additional sales
taxes within the boundaries of incorporated cities in Los Angeles
County.
RESOLVED FURTHER, that the City Clerk certify copies of
this resolution and transmit the same to Senator Thomas M. Rees
and Assemblymen Harvey Johnson and Alfred H. Song.
