CC - 1965 - 69 - Lower Colorado River Basin Project Act0 RESOLUTION NO. 65-69 RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ROSEMEAD SUPPORTING THE LOWER COLORADO RIVER BASIN PROJECT ACT. THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ROSEMEAD, CALIFORNIA, HEREBY RESOLVES: WHEREAS, the State of California and particularly Southern California has been for years and is sustaining tremendous growth and is increasing population by several. hundreds of thousands of persons each year, and such growth will continue indefinitely, and WHEREAS, despite diligent efforts by the Metropolitan Water District, other water agencies and the State of California to procure additional.supplies of water, the projected demand for water will exceed the supply of water in the immediately foreseeable future, and WHEREAS, the entire Pacific Southwest, the most dynamic region within the United States, is a water shortage area and far reaching.plans and aggressive action are essential if the growth of this area is not to be stifled and its great productivity strangled by the shortage of water, and WHEREAS, additional legislation is necessary in order to provide for an intensive examination by the Secretary of Interior of possible supplemental sources of water for the entire Colorado River Basin, and thereby protect existing California uses as well as enable the orderly development of the Central Arizona Project, and WHEREAS, the "Lower Colorado River Basin Project Act" which was introduced in the Congress in February of 1915 would provide the needed Congressional authorization for such search for supplemental water, protection of existing California uses and construction, and is in the interest of the great Pacific Southwest and the public interest of the United States of America, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Rosemead, State of California, that the City of Rosemead, California, hereby endorses and supports said Lower Colorado River Basin Project Act, and urges the Congress of the United States to enact such legislation into law at the earliest possible date. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this resolution, bearing the seal of the City of Rosemead and duly certified by the City Clerk, be presented to the Subcommittee on irrigation and Reclamation of the House Interior and Insular Affairs Committee in connection with its hearings on such Lower Colorado River Basin Project Act, and that copies of this resolution be made available in due course to United States Senators Kuchel and Murphy, and to all Congressmen from the State of California.. PASSED, APPROVED and ADOPTED this 14th day of September, 1965. ATTEST: CITY CLERK
