A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF ROSEMEAD OFFICIALLY DESIGNATING
AND REQUESTING THE AFFILIAT!Oi•J OF THE
PROUD AND HISTORIC CITY OF ZAPOPAN, IN
THE STATE OF JAL I SCO, RE.PUK f OF MEXICO,
AS SISTER CITY OF THE CITY OF ROSEMEAD,
STATE OF CALIFORNIA, UNITED STA- ES CF
AMERICA.
WHEREAS, the people, Chamber of Commerce and other
civic organizations of the City of Rosemead, California, have
called upon the City Council of the City of Rosemead to enter
into a Sister City program of cultural exchange for the pro-
motion of goodwill, friendship, understanding and respect
between the proples of the Republic of Mexico and of the
United States of America, and
WHEREAS, the City of Rosemead, incorporated as a
municipal corporation of the State of California on August 4,
1959, in the San Gabriel Valley near the site of the original
San Gabriel Mission, is located on land which at one time was
a part of the Republic of Mexico and has a cultural heritage
enriched by its historical association with Spain and with
the Republic of Mexico, and
WHEREAS, the Sister City Committee, civic organiza-
tions and people of the City of Rosemead have reviewed the many
historic and beautiful cities of the Republic of "axico in
search of a city which, by virtue of location, size, community
interest, pride, historic background, leadership and progressive-
ness would afford the best possible foundation for a people-to-
people program of cultural exchange, goodwill, friendship and
mutual respect, and
WHEREAS, the proud and beautiful City of Zapopan, in
the State of Jalisco, Republic of Mexico, rounded in the year
1541, some three hundred years before what is now California
became a part of the United States of America, with its historic
past, its picturesque charm, its rich cultural heritage and the
deep religious interest of its people exemplified by the famous
Miraculous Virgin of Zapopan, has been unanimously selected !:y
the Sister City Committee and people of the City of Rosemead as
the most appropriate choice for a Sister City program,
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
ROSEMEAD, STATE OF CALIFORNIA, UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,
HEREBY RESOLVES:
That this City Council extend to the officials and
citizens of the City of Zapopan in the State of Jalisco,
Republic of Mexico, a warm and official greeting and felicitations
of the City of Rosemead and its people, and an invitation to the
officials and people of the City of Zapopan, to officially join
with the City of Rosemead, California, in a Sister City program
for the promotion of friendship, understanding and respect
through close cooperation, visitations, communication and
cultural exchange between our respective cities.
RESOLVED FURTHER that the Honorable Stuart H. Maude,
Mayor of the City of Rosemead, as Chairman of a delegation from
the City of Rosemead, and said delegation, are hereby authorized
and empowered to extend the aforesaid invitation to the officials
of the City of Zapopan, together with the warmest greetings and
best wishes of the citizens of the City of Rosemead, California.
PASSED, APPROVED and unanimously ADOPTED and officially
signed and sealed this twenty sixth day of October in the year
of our Lcrd one thousand nine hundred sixty five.
