CC - 1966 - 23 - Water Bond ProposalRESOLUTION NO. 66-23 L A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ROSEMEAD ENDORSING THE $850,000,000 WATER BOND PROPOSAL TO BE SUBMITTED TO VOTERS BY THE METROPOLITAN WATER DISTRICT OF SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA AT THE JUNE 7, 1966, DIRECT PRIMARY ELECTION AND URGING APPROVAL THEREOF BY THE VOTERS IN THE SAID MUNICIPAL WATER DISTRICT. WHEREAS, The Metropolitan Water District of Southern California will submit a proposal for an $850,000,000 water bond issue to be voted upon at the June 7, 1966, direct primary election, and WHEREAS, approval of the water bond proposal is necessary to finance construction of facilities to distribute Northern California water from the State Water Project to member agencies of The Metropolitan Water District, including more than 100 cities in six Southern California counties, and WHEREAS, the continued welfare and safety of more than half the population of the State of California requires that an ever increasing supply of imported water be furnished by The Metropolitan Water District through construction of more than 300 miles of tunnels and pipelines, new treatment plants and related facilities to be financed by the water bond proposal to be so submitted, and WHEREAS, construction at the earliest possible date of the above-mentioned water distribution facilities, especially including the Foothill Feeder pipeline, is a vital requirement for replenishment of the depleted underground water basin re- lied upon as the source of supply serving cities, communities, and industries in the Upper San Gabriel Valley, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ROSEMEAD that the $850,000,000 water bond pro- posal to be submitted to voters by The Metropolitan Water District of Southern California at the June 7, 1966, direct primary election be, and it is hereby,.endorsed, and that voters residing in the City of Rosemead be, and they are hereby, urged to support the said water bond proposal, and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of this Resolution be furnished to The Metropolitan Water District of Southern California, and to The Upper San Gabriel Valley Municipal Water District.
