CC - 1966 - 27 - Commending Deputy J.D. BarrettRESOLUTION NO. 66-27 • A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF ROSEMEAD COMMENDING DEPUTY J. D. BARRETT WHEREAS, on April 25, 1966, Mary Helen Hernandez, a seven year old girl fell down a stormdrain into the Alhambra.wash and was carried headlong by the swift current for a number of blocks; and WHEREAS, the swiftness of the water and its depth made it impossible for this young girl to save herself; and WHEREAS, Deputy J. D. Barrett, appreciated the plight of the child and immediately entered the drainpipe in an effort to rescue her, and in doing fell and injured his knees and tore his uniform, but nevertheless continued on in an effort to save her; and WHEREAS, the City of Rosemead is extremely fortunate to have as a member of its law enforcement agency a person such as Deputy J. D. Barrett, whose primary concern was for the safety and welfare of fellow human beings; and WHEREAS, the City of Rosemead wishes to express its gratitude for the heroism of its Deputy J. D. Barrett; NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Rosemead does publicly commend Deputy J. D. Barrett for responding immediately to the plight of Mary Helen Hernandez and for assisting in saving her. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that copies of this Resolution shall be presented to Deputy J. D. Barrett and made a permanent record of the minutes of this City. PASSED, APPROVED and ADOPTED this 10th day of May, 1966: Mayor ATTEST: City Clerk
