RESOLUTION N0. 66-29
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF ROSEMEAD COMMENDING
MARSHALL LEWIS
WHEREAS, on April 25, 1966, Mary Helen Hernandez,
a seven year old girl fell down a stormdrain into the
Alhambra wash and was carried headlong by the swift current
for a number of blocks; and
WHEREAS, the swiftness of the water and its depth
made it impossible for this young girl to save herself;
and
WHEREAS, at that time Marshall Lewis, a citizen
of this community, was playing golf at the Whittier Narrows
Golf Course and heard the screams of this young, frightened
child; and
WHEREAS, Marshall Lewis fearing for this child's
safety immediately left the golf course, ran along the wash
and concerned only with the safety and welfare of this child
plunged into the wash suffering a broken arm in so doing;
and
WHEREAS, the efforts of Marshall Lewis in reaching
this child and pushing her to safety were responsible for
this child being saved; and
WHEREAS, the City of Rosemead is extremely proud
of its citizen Marshall Lewis and grateful on behalf of
this City for his heroic efforts;
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council
of the City of Rosemead does publicly commend Marshall Lewis
for responding immediately to the plight of Mary Helen
Hernandez and for assisting in saving this child.,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this
Resolution shall be presented to Marshall Lewis and made
a permanent record of the minutes of this City..
PASSED, APPROVED and adopted this 10th day of
May, 1966.
