AQUATICS
Winter Aquatics Programs - Aquatics current ongoing programs are Lap Swim, Aqua Fit, Adult Swim
Lessons, and our Rosemead Rapids Swim Team.
Lap Swim - Swimming is the best full body workout. Lap Swim takes place Monday through Friday 5:30 —
8:30 pm and Saturday 10:00 am —12:00 pm.
Aqua Fit — Water fitness is a great way to exercise. Come join our Aqua Fit class on Monday and
Wednesday 5:30 — 6:10 pm
Rosemead Rapids Swim Team — The swim team is currently practicing Monday through Friday 5:30 —
8:30 pm and Saturday 8:00 — 10:00 am. Rosemead Rapids currently has 166 participants registered for
the month of January.
Rentals- Rosemead High School and San Gabriel High School are using the Rosemead Aquatic Center for
practice and competitions for the 2024 swim season.
Lifeguard Training - Aquatic staff are preparing to host lifeguard training course on February 23 to 25 at
the Rosemead Aquatic Center. This course provides participants with the knowledge and skills to
prevent, recognize, and respond to aquatic emergencies. Participants who attend all sessions of this
course will obtain their American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification First Aid and CPR/AED for
Professional Rescuer valid for 2 years.
Aquatic Recruitment — Aquatic staff, along with Human Resources, are currently working on recruiting
for the summer of 2024. We are looking to hire Aquatic Attendants, Lifeguards, Lifeguard/Swim
Instructors, Assistant Pool Managers, and Recreation leaders. In addition to offering an incentive
program, the City of Rosemead will be hosting a Job fair on Saturday, February 24, 2024.

Garvey Park
Tennis Courts/Pickleball Courts — The renovated tennis courts are not open at Garvey Park. In addition
to the resurfacing of the tennis courts, the City created a hybrid tennis court that consists of 4 pickleball
courts. Pickleball play is designated on Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday from 5:00 to 9:30 pm
and Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday from 8:00 am to 1:00 pm. 4. With the new additions of the
pickleball courts at Garvey Park Tennis Courts, Johnny Allen Tennis is now offering youth pickleball
lessons for youth and adults! Class will be held Monday evenings, and we currently have 2 kids
registered for the program.
Garvey Community Center
Senior Craft Class —The Garvey Senior Center hosted a senior craft class on Monday, January 8, in which
each participant made a Lunar New Year Dragon themed craft project. In total, twenty-four seniors took
part in the activity. The next craft class will be on Monday, February 12th, from 12:OOpm to 1:OOpm.
Senior Halloween Social Luncheon — The Garvey Center will be celebrating the year of the Dragon on
Thursday, January 25. According to Chinese folklore the dragon represents good luck, strength, health
as wells as being a symbol representing imperial power and authority! The Garvey Center will mark the
occasion with a luncheon that includes lunch, Lunar New Year decorations and treats for all to enjoy.
The lunch will feature orange chicken or broccoli beef bowls and fortune cookies donated by Panda
Express. The event will also include drawings for prizes, dessert, and dancing for all to enjoy! The event
will also incorporate musical entertainment provided by Bobby Z. Tickets for the event are on sale now
at the Garvey Center for $7 per person.
Senior Excursions — On Friday December 15, the senior excursion program ventured out Riverside
Mission Inn to experience all the holiday glitz and glamor of the annual festival of lights. The Missions
light display is the second largest in the nation and features hundreds of thousands of lights! During the
excursion the seniors had time for dinner on their own before being treated to the one -of -a -kind light
show and display. The trip had great participation with a total of 73 seniors taking part in the excursion.
Case Management Services - The Parks and Recreation Department will soon be offering Senior Case
Management Services through YWCA San Gabriel Valley Senior Services. The case management services
will be offered on-site at the Garvey Center to seniors aged 60 or older, and to frail or disabled adults
aged 18-59. The case management services will provide a broad array of services with the goal of
keeping seniors in their homes for as long as possible. These services include but are not limited to
access to services such as transportation, case management, information, and assistance; in-home
services such as personal care, chore, and homemaker assistance; community services such as legal
services, mental health services, and adult day care; and community education and related
programming that help to coordinate and integrate services for seniors such as health screening,
exercise/health programs, etc. The case management services will be provided once a week at the
Garvey Center final date and time are to be determined.

SPECIAL EVENTS
Sweethearts Jamboree - Everyone's favorite event, the Sweethearts Jamboree returns to the Rosemead
Community Center for a day of fun filled activities. The event will take place on Saturday, February 17,
2024. The Valentines themed event includes bingo, lunch, dancing, and a special recognition for all the
special sweethearts in attendance. The event will also include lunch, refreshments and dessert. The
event will culminate with a dance for all to enjoy and partake in. The Bobby Z band will provide musical
entertainment with a mix of classic Latin and top 40 hits. The program is scheduled from 10:00 a.m. to
4:00 p.m. Tickets for the event are on sale now at the Garvey Center for $15 per person.
Youth In Government - Students in Rosemead get a first-hand look at how government works! The
program is designed to get students involved in government on a local level. Selected students will
participate in a shadow day, shadowing City Officials and staff, and on the second day, a City tour
and mock City Council meeting will be held in the Council Chambers at City Hall. Subjects addressed
each day may include matters such as community engagement, decisions on infrastructure, and
budget. Youth in Government Day builds political acumen and self-confidence through public
speaking and interaction.
For an opportunity to participate in this special two-day event, students must complete an online
application before March 4"', and meet the following requirements: Must be a High School Junior or
Senior, live in the City of Rosemead and Be in good academic standing. The program will take place
both March 21" (Shadow Day from 3:00 to 6:00 pm) and April 11th (Youth in Government Day Tour
and Mock City Council Meeting from 12:00 to 7:00 pm)
ADULT/YOUTH PROGRAMS AND SPORTS
Youth Sports:
Youth Volleyball Clinic— Our youth volleyball clinic started on Friday, January 26 at Temple Intermediate
Gym. Class will be held Fridays, between 5:30-8:30 pm and we currently have 43 kids in the program.
Youth Basketball League —The Winter Youth Basketball League began on January 22 and the league is
full with 16 teams and 160 participants in the league. Practices are held Monday through Thursday at
Garvey Intermediate Gym between 5:30 — 9:30 pm. Games will be held on Saturdays at Garvey Park
Gym, beginning February 3.
Adult Sports:
Adult Basketball League — The Winter Adult Basketball League started their Winter season on Sunday,
January 7 with a full 8 teams this season. Games are held between 11:00 am — 2:00 pm at Garvey Park
Gym on Sundays.
Adult Volleyball Open Gym — We are once again offering free open gym volleyball for adults, 18 years
and older. Open gym is held Sunday evenings between 6:30 — 9:30 pm at Garvey Park Gym. We
currently have 57 participants registered for this quarter.
