CC - 1967 - 058 - Automatic vote Tabulation SystemsCITY OF ROSEMEAD RESOLUTION NO. 67-58 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY CF ROSEMEAD RECOMMENDING TO THE LOS ANGELES COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS THAT IT GIVE FAVORABLE CON- SIDERATION TO THE ADOPTION OF AUTOMATIC VOTE TABULATION SYSTEMS FOR USE IN ELECTIONS. WHEREAS, the City of Alhambra, in holding its Municipal Election on June 6, 1967, used the I.B.M. Votomatic System; and, WHEREAS, all ballots, including absentee ballots, were completely tabulated one hour and thirty-two minutes after the polls closed at 7:00 o'clock P.M. As a result of this speedy tabulation the 328 election officials manning the 82 polling places, and also the members of the City Clerk's Department were able to complete the election work several hours earlier than would have been the case if the City's customary paper ballots had been used; and, WHEREAS, the returns from each precinct were checked three times by the computer without any variation in results; and, WHEREAS, the personnel provided by International Business Machines Corporation to train the City's election officers and to install and operate the computer equipment were extremely cooperative and courteous at all times; and, WHEREAS, the Votor Opinion Survey which was made during the course of the election day reveals a very high preference for the I. B. M. Votomatic System by the electorate; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Rosemead hereby expresses its approval of and satisfaction with the I. B. M. Votomatic System and respectfully recommends to the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors that it give favorable consideration to the adoption of the I. B. M. Votomatic System by the County of Los Angeles; BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk is directed to send copies of this resolution to all other cities in Los Angeles County.
