CC - 1967 - 067 - Honoring Edward T. TelfordRESOLUTION N0. 67-67 RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF ROSEMEAD HONORING EDWARD T. TELFORD. WHEREAS, the City of Rosemead wishes to honor and commend Edward T. Telford on the occasion of his retirement as District Engineer of the Division of Highways for Los Angeles, Orange and Ventura Counties; and WHEREAS, Edward T. Telford, has had as his responsi- bility as District Engineer, the planning for and the construction of one of the most complex urban highway trans- portation networks in the world; and WHEREAS, since becoming District Engineer, more than three-hundred and forth-one miles have been added to the Freeway Expressway System, representing an investment of more than 1.5 billion dollars for construction and acquisition of rights-of-way; and WHEREAS, Edward T. Telford, has with a firm and enlightened hand guided the planning and construction of a transportation system which has had and will have a profound and continuing effect on the three-county area in which it is located and in particular on the Los Angeles Metropolitan Area; and WHEREAS, Edward T. Telford, has won international recognition as an authority on the development and construction of urban highway systems, and has served as a consultant to foreign governments in planning for and alleviating urban traffic problems, and WHEREAS, Edward T. Telford, in addition to the achieve- ments of his career as a public servant in the field of highway planning, has rendered further service to his country in two world wars, serving both at home and abroad; and WHEREAS, in all of his activities, Edward T. Telford has brought to his work: a visionary's concern that his work and that of those working with him, should be of the highest order to serve the needs of the millions of persons living within the area of his endeavor; the strength of a scientist and a realist in dealing with the innumerable and complex problems facing his district; and a friendliness and under- standing which has won for him the admiration and respect of all those with whom he came into contact; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City of Rosemead, wishes to commend Edward T. Telford on the culmination of his long and fruitful service to this state, this country, and in particular, to the cities of Los Angeles Metropolitan Area; to honor him and express to him its thanks for a job well done; and to express its best wishes for the years of his retirement which lie ahead. 0 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this commendation of Edward T. Telford be permanently recorded upon the records of this City as a continuing recognition by this City Council of his outstanding achievements.
