CC - 1968 - 009 - Compromise Arrangement on Cigarette Tax0 RESOLUTION NO_ 68- 9 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ROSEMEAD, CALIFORNIA, REQUESTING THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF THE LEAGUE OF CALIFORNIA CITIES TO SUPPORT A COMPROMISE ARRANGEMENT ON THE CIGARETTE TAX, WHEREAS, the General Assembly of the League of California Cities has, by resolution, directed that the League support legislation in 1968 to amend the method of distributing cigarette tax revenue; and WHEREAS, the League Committee on Revenue and Taxation, after considering many alternatives, has recommended legislation to change the present formula to one based one-half on taxable sales and one- half on population; and WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Rosemead believes that a change in the law to modify the present distribution system must be based on a method that recognizes the special needs of the many California cities; and WHEREAS, recommended formula eliminates inequities that may exist in the present allocation of cigarette taxes and recognizes the differences between residential and industrial communities; NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED , THAT THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ROSEMEAD, CALIFORNIA, does hereby urge the Board of Directors of the League of California Cities to support the 1968 compromise legislation to amend the method of distributing cigarette tax revenue recommended by the League Committee on Revenue and Taxation; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the City Clerk be and she is hereby authorized and directed to forward certified copies of this resolution to the League of California Cities, PASSED, APPROVED and ADOPTED this 23rd day of January, 1968, MAYOR OF THE CITY OF ROSEMEAD ATTEST: CITY CLERK
