CC - 2009-08 - Supporting the Metropolitan Transportation Authority Eastside Corridor• • RESOLUTION NO. 2009-08 A RESOLUTION OF THE ROSEMEAD CITY COUNCIL SUPPORTING THE METROPOLITAN TRANSPORTATION AUTHORITY EASTSIDE TRANSIT CORRIDOR PHASE 2, ALTERNATIVE 1 The Rosemead City Council (hereafter referred to as the City Council) does resolve as follows: WHEREAS, The City of Rosemead is committed to being a partner in the Eastside Transit Corridor Phase 2; WHEREAS, The Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro) Board of Director approved the Metro Eastside Transit Corridor Phase 2 Alternatives Analysis Study at their January 22, 2009 meeting; WHEREAS, The Los Angeles County Metro Board of Directors approved the four alternative recommendations for further study in the Draft Environmental Impact Statement/Environmental Impact Report (Draft EIS/EIR) including Advance Conceptual Engineering (ACE) at their January 22, 2009 meeting; WHEREAS, Alternative 1 (Metro Gold Line Eastside Extension via State Route 60) follows the southern edge of the SR-60; WHEREAS, Alternative 1 is the only recommendation that traverses through the City of Rosemead, in addition to several other cities in the San Gabriel Valley including Montebello, Monterey Park, El Monte, Industry, and South El Monte; WHEREAS, the project's intention is to improve mobility within the proposed area and plan for projected population growth; WHEREAS, Alternative 1 would be a major relief to congestion along the 60 freeway; and WHEREAS, the City of Rosemead is committed to providing its residents with alternative modes of transportation. NOW THEREFORE, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Rosemead City Council, as follows: Section 1: That the City Council agrees to collaborate with the Metro in bringing the Eastside Transit Corridor Phase 2 to the City. Section 2: That the City Council places its full support behind Alternative 1, the SR-60 light rail transit alternative. Section 3: That the City Council directs staff to work with Metro, community stakeholders, and neighboring cities in garnering support for Alternative 1. Section 4: That the City Clerk of the City of Rosemead shall certify to the adoption of this Resolution which shall become effective upon its approval by the City Council. • • PASSED, APPROVED, AND ADOPTED this 10th day of February 2009. The Alternatives Analysis will review previous planning studies and update materials in relation to the new and changed conditions along the corridor. This includes evaluating changes or shifts in population, development, employment, and travel patterns. Upon completion of the Alternatives Analysis, the results and recommendations will be presented to the Metro Board of Directors. The initiation of an environmental process may then be authorized.
