CC - 1971 - 53 - Revise Existing Unrealistic Policies•

RESOLUTION NO. 71-53
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF ROSEMEAD URGING THE BOARD'OF SUPERVISORS
OF THE COUNTY OF LOS ANGELES TO REVISE THE
EXISTING UNREALISTIC POLICIES USED TO DETER-
MINE ANNUAL WAGE ADJUSTMENTS.
WHEREAS, the policies of the County of Los Angeles,
especially those pertaining to personnel matters, have a pro-
found influence on the policies of surrounding cities; and
WHEREAS, the Board of Supervisors recently approved
a wage-benefit package for the Fire and Sheriff personnel which
has the effect of significantly increasing the cost to the tax-
payer for providing these vital services; and:
WHEREAS, it is the conviction of the City Council of
the City of Rosemead that, inasmuch as these policy decisions
of the Board of Supervisors profoundly effect the ability of
this City to provide vital municipal services, a greater sense
of responsibility should be exercised by each member of the
Board of Supervisors in'making decisions relating to these
policies;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF ROSEMEAD THAT:
1. The Board of Supervisors review existing charter
provisions, ordinances, and policies of the County of Los Angeles
relating to personnel salaries and benefits to determine if, in
fact, when all elements such as retirement, job security, holidays,
vacations, as well as salary, are taken into consideration. We
feel that County employees, especially Fire and Sheriff personnel,
are now overcompensated.
2. The Board of Supervisors adopt a more realistic
and responsible attitude as to the profound and cumulative
effect of their policy decisions upon all taxpayers within the
County, especially the taxpayers residing within incorporated
city limits.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk is hereby
directed to forward a certified copy of this resolution to the
Board of Supervisors of Los Angeles County.
1971.
