CC - Item 5D - 2008 Annual Conference GFOA• E M P 5 Al q 0 Q~Q o. - ' DR~'DRMD'4 0 ROSEMEAD CITY COUNCIL STAFF REPORT TO: THE HONORABLE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL FROM: OLIVER CHI, CITY MANAGER DATE: MARCH 25, 2008 SUBJECT: AUTHORIZATION TO ATTEND THE GOVERNMENT FINANCE OFFICERS' ASSOCIATION (GFOA) 2008 ANNUAL CONFERENCE JUNE 15 - 18, 2008 SUMMARY The 2008 GFOA annual conference will include training from the following categories: Accounting, Auditing and Financial Reporting, Budgeting and Financial Planning, Cash Management and Investing, Debt Management, Management and Policy, Pension and Benefits as well as Technology and Digital Government. STAFF RECOMMENDATION That the City Council authorize attendance at the GFOA annual conference by the Finance Director and the Finance Manager. ANALYSIS Government finance professionals require extensive specialized continuing education in a wide range of government finance topics to stay abreast of current laws, pronouncements, trends and practices which should be implemented Citywide. The GFOA conference is one of the few venues that provide extensive specialized training in a single setting at the same time.
