ROSEMEAD CITY COUNCIL
STAFF REPORT
TO: THE HONORABLE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL
FROM: OLIVER CHI, CITY MANAGER
DATE: MAY 27. 2008
SUBJECT: APPLICATION FOR USED OIL RECYCLING BLOCK GRANT FUNDING
SUMMARY
The California Oil Recycling Enhancement Act of 1991 authorizes the California
Integrated Waste Management Board (CIWMB) to award grants to enhance the
collection and recycling of used lubricating oil. Rosemead is eligible to apply under the
fourteenth funding cycle of this program, for the July 1, 2008 - June 30, 2009 fiscal
year.
It is anticipated that these grant funds will be utilized for the promotion of the City's
State-certified collection centers, development of education awareness materials, and
assistance in the recruitment of additional collection facilities.
An application for these grant funds must be accompanied by a resolution authorizing
the City's grant submittal.
Staff Recommendation
Staff recommends that the City Council approve Resolution No. 2008-35 authorizing the
submittal of an application to the California Integrated Waste Management Board for
funding under the Fourteenth Cycle of the Used Oil Recycling Block Grant Program.
