CC - 1995-08 - Urging Reform of the Voting Laws~J RESOLUTION 95-08 U A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ROSEMEAD URGING REFORM OF THE VOTING LAWS IN THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA TO ADDRESS THE IMPACT OF VOTER FRAUD WHEREAS, several watchdog groups in California have uncovered evidence of significant voter fraud during the election of November 1994; and WHEREAS, the California Voter Fraud Task force studied eighty-four bellwether precincts and determined that as many as 170,000 fraudulent votes could have been cast in the November election; and WHEREAS, the evidence generated by the study led the Task Force to conclude that voter fraud occurred in previous elections on a scale large enough to have possibly affected the outcome of several statewide and local races; and WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Rosemead has worked diligently over the years to ensure that its local elections have been conducted honestly and without controversy. NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ROSEMEAD, CALIFORNIA, DOES HEREBY FIND, DETERMINE AND RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1. The City Council of the City of Rosemead supports the following reforms in the State Elections Code: 1. A requirement that voters show valid identification at the time of registration. 2. A requirement that valid identification be shown at the polls on election day. 3. A ban on all "bounty hunting" in which people are hired to register voters. 4. The elimination of voter registration by mail. 5. Systematic "purging" of the State of California's voter rolls to drop the names of individuals who have not voted in one of the previous two general elections. SECTION 2. The City Clerk shall forward copies of this Resolution to the Governor, the Secretary of State, the Attorney General, the members of the Legislature of the State of California, the League of California Cities and the California Contract Contract Cities Association. PASSED, APPROVED AND ADOPTED this 14th da of February, 1995.
