A RESOLUTION URGING THE CALIFORNIA LEGIS
TO GRANT LOCAL GOVERNMENTS THE AUTHORITY
REGULATE THE USE AND SALE OF FIREARMS WI
THEIR JURISDICTION
WHEREAS, the sale and use of firearms profourydly contributes to
the climate of violence and crime in our City, oAr County and our
State; and fT
WHEREAS, violence arising from the use or threat of the use, of
firearms impacts all of our communities, making them less safe places
in which to live and do business; and

WHEREAS, this violence impacts the economy of our communities,
our County, and our State by making it gssary to expend millions
of tax dollars for emergency room and o~ er hospital care; and
WHEREAS, the occurrence of this v 1 nce necessitates the hiring
of increasing numbers of law enforcem officers and others to deal
with the prevention of hand gund viole Ve and its effects; and
WHEREAS, this violence severely ects young people in our
schools, women, the elderly, our frJens s and our families; and
WHEREAS, this is a turning poin our communities, in our
County, and our State, and our c.T are calling for gun control,
and an end to violence; and i
WHEREAS, local governments sh uld have the ability to regulate
the use and the sale of firea in the instance that they should
desire to enact more stringent ws than those adopted by the State
Legislature. j
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RES /VED, that the City Council of the City
of Rosemead joins in supporti g legislation to permit local
governments to regulate the ale and use of firearms in those
instances when local regula 'ions would be more stringent than State
regulations; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVE VI that the City Council of the City of
Rosemead adopts this Reso ution in keeping with the City's goals to
protect the well-being a d quality of life of its citizens, and to
assure their safety; an
BE IT FURTHER RESO VED, that the City agrees to take a leadership
position on the issue of gun violence and to work with other elected
officials, includinXby he women who are members of the Los Angeles
Elected Women for Vence Reduction, and school community leaders in
order to create way which firearm violence can be eradicated.
