RESOLUTION NO. 90-24
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF ROSEMEAD RECOMMENDING THAT THE
CALIFORNIA DESERT PROTECTION ACT OF
1989 (S.11 AND H.R. 780) BE APPROVED
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Rosemead has revie d
and considered the provisions of the Desert Protection Act of 1 9;
and
WHEREAS, the California Desert Protection Act of 1989 oposes
the protection, preservation, and recreational use of sign' icant
examples of California's unique scenic, historic, archaeo ogical,
ecological, wildlife and recreational resources; and
WHEREAS, public lands within the Southern Califor is Desert are
facing ever increasing threats due to encroaching urb nization,
conflicting federal management policies and program mining
activities, hazardous waste sites, and off-road velvicle travel; and
WHEREAS, the rapid urbanization of the Sout-e n California
region has placed increased pressures on existi g recreation areas
and has created a demand for additional recrea Tonal opportunities;
and
WHEREAS, the creation of three (3) ne National Parks, Mojave,
Death Valley and Joshua Tree, will enhanc recreational opportunities
in the Southwestern United States and pr ide recreational
opportunities within close proximity to~millions of Southern
Californians; and
WHEREAS, the creation of new
tourism revenues while relieving
National Parks systems; and
ional Parks will increase
sures from our already overcrowd
WHEREAS, the designation oVthe Indian Canyons National Historic
Site on the southern boundary o/ the City of Palm Springs will have a
direct positive economic and recreational benefit to the City of Palm
Springs; and /
WHEREAS, the City Cou it of the City of Rosemead has determined
that the enactment of the alifornia Desert Protection Act of 1989
will be beneficial to th economy of the State of California.
NOW, THEREFORE,IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City
of Rosemead, Californ does hereby support the approval of 5.11 and
H.R. 780, the Califor is Desert Protection Act of 1989.
