Resolution No. 89-13
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF ROSEMEAD SUPPORTING AB 8 (FLOYD)
WHEREAS, the City of Rosemead is committed to the concept of
enhancing road safety through a comprehensive program-of street
improvement projects; and
WHEREAS, injuries and deaths caused by vehicle accidents are
traumatic and often costly to the communities in which they occur;
and
WHEREAS, substantial evidence has come to light attributing an
inordinate number of injuries and deaths to vehicular accidents
involving motorcycles; and
WHEREAS, motorcycle riders not wearing helmets account for more
than two-and-a-half times the number of critical or fatal head
injuries as riders who wear helmets; and
WHEREAS, the numbers of injuries and deaths attributable to
unhelmeted riders represent a burden to taxpayers, who bear more than
80 percent of the costs associated with motorcycle-related injuries.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City
of Rosemead supports AB 8 (Floyd) which would require all California
motorcyclists to wear approved safety helmets.
PASSED, APPROVED, AND ADOPTED this 28th day of February, 1989.
