A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF ROSEMEAD OPPOSING THE VIOLENT
SUPPRESSION OF PROTESTING STUDENTS BY THE
GOVERNMENT OF THE PEOPLE'S REPUBLIC OF CHINA
WHEREAS, the City of Rosemead is an incorporated City in the
State of California in the United States of America pursuant to the
constitution of the land; and
WHEREAS, the United States Constitution guarantees the freedom
of self-expression and the protection of basic human rights; and
WHEREAS, the recent suppression of students protesting in
Tiananman Square by the People's Liberation Army violates those basic
principals held sacred by the Constitution of the United States; and
WHEREAS, the City of Rosemead supports the fundamental human
right to seek a more democratic from of government; and
WHEREAS, the City of Rosemead opposes vehemently the violent
suppression of those rights.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the city council of the City
of Rosemead condemns the recent action by the government of the
People's Republic of China to violently suppress the pro-democratic
sentiment expressed recently in Tiananmen Square.
PASSED, APPROVED, AND ADOPTED this 27th day of June, 1989.
