LAZZARETTO, CITY MANAG DATE: SEPTEMBER 12, 2006 SUBJECT: BUS STOP IMPROVEMENTS SUMMARY Plans and specifications have been prepared for the replacement of all existing bus stop furnishings with new bus shelters, benches and trash receptacles City-wide, except for those on Valley and San Gabriel Boulevards, unless damaged. Staff Recommendation Staff recommends that the City Council approve the plans and specifications for the installation of new bus shelters, benches and trash receptacles City-wide (Attachment A) and authorize advertisement for bids by the City Clerk. ANALYSIS Over the past several years new bus shelters, benches and trash receptacles have been replaced along Valley Boulevard and San Gabriel Boulevard as part of the street improvement projects along those two arterials. This new proposed project will replace all existing bus stop furnishings City-wide, except for those on Valley and San Gabriel Boulevards, unless damaged. The new bus shelters will be equipped with solar powered lighting, unless existing electrical service is available. The new furnishing will be similar in style and color to match the existing furnishing on Valley and San Gabriel Boulevards, but may not necessarily be manufactured by the same company. The proposed schedule for construction is as follows: Receive Bids Award Contract Begin Work Complete Work October 12, 2006 October 24, 2006 December 4, 2006 January 12, 2006 The specifications have been reviewed and are acceptable to the City Engineer. The Engineer's estimate for construction is $220,000. APPROVED FOR CITY COUNCIL AGENDA: City Council Meeting September 12, 2006 Page 2 of 2 FINANCIAL REVIEW Funding for these bus stop improvements are included in the FY 06-07 Budget utilizing Air Quality Management District (AQMD) and Proposition C funds.
