CC - Item 4A - Walmart Garden Center Update0
ROSEMEAD CITY COUNCIL
STAFF REPORT
TO: THE HONORABLE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCI
FROM: ANDREW C. LAZZARETTO, CITY MANAG
DATE: NOVEMBER 28, 2006
SUBJECT: WALMART GARDEN CENTER UPDATE
SUMMARY
Mayor Taylor has requested a status update of the issuance of the final certificate of
occupancy for the Wal Mart garden center structure.
Recommendation
Staff recommends that the City Council receive and file the information.
ANALYSIS
In addition to the short list of outstanding items left on the punch list, the City has been
informed that Wal Mart is behind schedule on the installation of the fire suppression
sprinklers in the detached garden center structure. Due to some confusion on the issue
between the Los Angeles County Fire Department, the contractor, and Wal Mart, the
main water source extension to the garden center was not constructed prior to paving
the site. Therefore, the contractor must now saw-cut the asphalt and extend a main
water line to provide service to the sprinkler system. The plans for the garden center
sprinkler system were approved by the Fire Department last week and it is anticipated
that this additional installation work could be completed within the next two to four
weeks.
Although the Fire Department has stated the structure is exempt from sprinkler
requirements, Wal Mart desires to follow all of the conditions of approval which included
installing sprinklers in "all buildings." Wal Mart's preference is to ensure that no issues
are left unresolved when they request a final certificate of occupancy for the structure.
