RESOLUTION NO. 92-45
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ROSEMEAD
RENAMING THE DELTA MISSION PARK TO THE SALLY TANNER PARK
IN HONOR OF ASSEMBLYWOMAN SALLY TANNER
WHEREAS, Sally Tanner was elected as the first woman from the
San Gabriel Valley to serve in the California State Assembly in
November 1978; and
WHEREAS, Assemblywoman Tanner's work in the Legislature has
been marked by her dedicated pursuit of legislation concerning
environmental quality issues such as the cleanup of groundwater
contamination, air quality, and the establishment of a
comprehensive hazardous waste planning process for local
governments; and
WHEREAS, a culmination of that work was realized in
Assemblywoman Tanner's role in creating the Assembly Committee on
Environmental Safety and Toxic Materials; and
WHEREAS, as Chair of that Committee, Assemblywoman Tanner was
instrumental in steering through the Legislature several pieces of
landmark legislation concerning the cleanup and preservation of the
San Gabriel Valley's groundwater, as well as California's natural
resources; and
WHEREAS, Assemblywoman Tanner authored and was successful in
gaining passage in the Legislature of AB 181 on behalf of the City
of Rosemead and California cities which clarifies State Superfund
law and helps protect cities from unwarranted litigation under
existing law; and
WHEREAS, Assemblywoman Tanner
legislation ranging from the area
the "Lemon Law," to the assurance
is detected early; and
was responsible for authoring key
of automobile reliability; with
that cervical cancer among women
WHEREAS, Assemblywoman Tanner has remained true to her "roots"
in the 60th District during her seven terms in the Assembly, as
indicated by her efforts to cleanup the Main San Gabriel Water
Basin as well as play a key role in attaining freeway sound
attenuation walls for the residents of Rosemead; and
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Rosemead will always
view Sally's term in the Legislature as one marked by a vision of
coherent policy making, intelligence, tenacity, and ability.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of the
City of Rosemead congratulates and honors Assemblywoman Sally
Tanner upon her retirement from a long and extremely successfully
term of public service in the California State Legislature.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City of
Rosemead takes much pride in dedicating the open-space facility at
the intersection of Mission Drive and Delta Avenue as "Sally Tanner
Park."
