A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ROSEMEAD
SUPPORTING THE COMPLETION OF THE LONG BEACH FREEWAY ALONG
THE MERIDIAN VARIATION ROUTES
WHEREAS, since 1964 when the Long Beach Freeway, Route 710, was
"temporarily" terminated at Valley Boulevard causing a disruption
in the regional transportation system and increasing congestion on
local streets for nearby cities; and
WHEREAS, the disruption has also caused significant safety,
environmental and economic problems for the region; and
WHEREAS, in March 1992, the Environmental Impact Statement for
the Meridian Variation Route was approved by the Federal Highway
Administration; and
WHEREAS, a mitigation plan for local impacts of the 710 Freeway
extension is currently being reviewed by the communities most
affected.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the City Council of the City
of Rosemead as follows:
Section 1. The City of Rosemead supports the completion of the
710 Freeway extension.
Section 2. The City of Rosemead supports the Meridian
Variation Route as the selected alternative for the 710 Freeway
extension.
Section 3. The City of Rosemead supports the mitigation review
process underway and all reasonable measures to minimize the impact
on those communities most affected.
PASSED, APPROVED and ADOPTED this 10th day of November, 1992.
